Capsicum (Bell Peppers)
The capsicum is a relative of the tomato and requires similar growing conditions. It is really a greenhouse crop but can be grown outdoors in the south if you are lucky with the weather. The varieties that are becoming popular are the large sweet peppers, their small and fiery relatives are known as chilli peppers. In the greenhouse their stems can grow to 3 foot tall but outdoors a lot shorter. Capsicums can be a difficult crop to grow, needing regular watering, feeding, spraying and staking.
